Jorth Gar
The Jorth Gar branch of the New Varangian Guard concerntrates primarily on the earlier Varangian Guardsmen of Viking origin, and their many exploits and accomplishments. Those that were given to Emperor Basil II in recognition of his military treaty with the Rus, by Prince Vladimir of Kiev.
Many of these warriors held fast to their traditional Pagan ideals and spirit, and derived inspiration from their ancestors and kinsmenship, even though their new employers were strongly Christian Orthodox. It is with these Varangians from which Jorth Gar derives its identity and focus. We also reenact warriors that returned back to their homelands after active service in the Guard, and have a strong civilian and family base within the group as a result.
Jorth Gar is based at the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Together with our allies in Brisbane, Rusland NVG, we can field the largest infantry battleforce in Queensland and quite possibly Australia (Real weapon Combat). This can be seen and experienced at shows like the Armidale Easter Gathering and the Abbey Tournament, which are the biggest reenactment events in the southern hemisphere.
We are always recruiting for new members, and advise interested people to contact us via this website for more info, or to arrange to come to a training. jorthgar@live.com |

The Black Watch
The 42nd Royal Highland Regiment 1815 (Australia) Inc. This regiment is a living history/re-enactors association based throughout Australia comprised of members who replicate the uniform and drill of the 42nd Regiment, 1st Centre Company (Black Watch) of the British Army in the 1815 period.
At the time, the British Army under the Duke of Wellington was involved in the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. Previous to this the British Army, including the 42nd Regt., had fought the French Armies, which had occupied Spain and Portugal.
The weapons used are muskets which are the .75 cal. “Brown Bess” (India Pattern) with 39” smooth bore barrel. A great deal of research has been undertaken to ensure the uniform and equipment is correct. All uniforms and accoutrements are made to existing patterns, dating back to 1815. All members must comply to this strict dress code and unless it can be proved that an item of dress or equipment was used in the period portrayed it is not worn. Membership enquiries from enthusiastic applicants are encouraged and they welcome questions regarding the uniform, equipment and weapons of the day
SAGA VIKINGS
The Vikings had a great influence on many countries in Europe. They settled in Sicily, they created a town now called Dublin and even settled as far as Israel. We know they settled in Iceland, Greenland and North America and started a Russian Kingdom. Britain didn’t manage to fight off the Vikings until after hundreds of thousands of Vikings had settled in England. So the heritage encompasses much more than just the Scandinavian lands.
Our group re-lives all aspect of the Viking period like social activities, crafts (leather, wood, metal and weapons, bone carving, striking of coins, jewellery making, weaving, etc), daily common activities and combat re-enactment.
The club recognises and respect the Viking mythology of Odin, Thor, Freya, Baldur, Valkyries, Valhalla, Asgård, Idavall and all of the Viking Sagas.
Since 1995, the club has been re-enacting Viking History at many events in South-East Queensland and Northern NSW including on our own land at Joyner.
Much can be said about this club and all its energy, initiatives and strength. It’s a strength which Brisbane can count on. To truly understand the scope of this club, you need to contact some of the club members or visit one of the functions. The past as well as the future is in the hands of these great people. For any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us on our e-mail contact@sagavikings.org.au
